Course Structure

Both courses have the same overall structure and content.

Stage One

Students focus on preparing themselves as actors, extending the range of their imagination and the expressiveness of their movement and voice and building skills in dance, singing, improvisation and stage combat.

In this phase they are introduced to the acting methods that will be the foundation of all their work and to rehearsal methods for text and devising. Group work and the idea of play are at the centre of this foundation. Students are grounded in theatre history and a range of classical and modern texts are studied and related to the core methods. The methods learnt are then explored and evaluated through internal productions and production exercises.

Stage Two

Work on voice, movement and technical skills is developed to an advanced level. The focus now shifts to the detailed study and practical exploration of texts and performance styles. The development of the actor's individual style and personality is at the centre of this phase.

Professional studies are designed to guide students in the practical business of an acting career. Preparing for auditions, approaching agents, looking for work, setting up a theatre company, tax, Equity membership, Spotlight, photographs, CVs and the whole range of matters that relate to professional work are dealt with.

In this second phase acting for television, film and radio are introduced.

Stage Three

Individual programmes relating to technique, movement and voice are developed to suit the needs of the student. These programmes are related directly to the rehearsals for public productions which now take place. Students work with a variety of directors and specialist workshops and master-classes are scheduled.

Agents and casting directors are invited to productions in London theatres and at the end of the course graduating students present to them a showcase of scenes, songs and audition pieces, at the Criterion Theatre in London's West End.
